Main uses of potassium permanganate

Used as an analytical reagent, such as preparing oxidizing standard solutions, and as an oxidant. Also used in organic synthesis, bleaching fibers and as a disinfectant.

In chemical production, it is widely used as an oxidant, such as in the production of saccharin, vitamin C, isoniazid, and benzoic acid; in medicine, it is used as a preservative, disinfectant, deodorant, and antidote; in water purification and wastewater treatment, it is used as a water treatment agent to oxidize hydrogen sulfide, phenols, iron, manganese, and various other organic and inorganic pollutants, controlling odors and decolorization. It is also used as a bleaching agent, adsorbent, colorant, and disinfectant. In concrete admixtures, it is used as an expanding agent.

Used as an analytical reagent, such as preparing oxidizing standard solutions, as an oxidizing agent. Also used in organic synthesis, bleaching fibers, and as a bactericide.

Potassium permanganate can be used in plastic electroplating for chemical roughening of certain materials, and can also be used for the treatment of pore walls in the metallization of holes in printed circuit board manufacturing. In the passivation treatment of aluminum and its alloys, it can replace hexavalent chromium for gold passivation treatment, and can also be used as an additive for chemical polishing of aluminum and its alloys. In solution analysis, potassium permanganate is an important titrant and can be used in redox titration analysis of hydrogen peroxide, ferrous salts, etc.

Potassium permanganate (KMnO4) is an inexpensive oxidizing agent commonly used in organic synthesis. Because it is soluble in water, it is often used in aqueous or mixed aqueous-organic solvent oxidation reactions. Aqueous solutions of potassium permanganate are strong oxidizing agents, and the addition of acid increases their oxidizing power. In the presence of phase transfer catalysts, potassium permanganate can react in non-polar solvents such as CH2Cl2. Studies have shown that potassium permanganate can also adsorb onto solid reagents, making it an effective heterogeneous oxidant.

Mainly used as a disinfectant, oxidant, bleaching agent, gas absorbent, carbon dioxide purifier, water purifier, etc.
